  • Mayor Juba put Winnipeg on the map and was instrumental in bringing the Pan-Am games to Winnipeg. If we had mayors with half the media savvy as Mayor Juba, Winnipeg would be the Greatest city in Canada.

  • He was above politics (in the party sense) but was a very political person. A Wpg patriot. Boy, do we miss him!

  • STEVE JUBA WAS AN INDEPENDENT POLITICIAN . He was a special invited Guest/Speaker at the Manitoba Reunion in Vancouver B.C. during EXPO 1986 with some 18,000 Manitobas attending. The Pawley NDP Manitoba Government was the ONLY Provincial Government who refused to sponsor a pavilion. Some 26 million attended EXPO l986 and it was a spectacular success. Thanks to local B.C. ex-'Peggers and special Manitoba entertainers- Our Manitoba Day had a profit of some $48,000. which we donated to the Variety Club less $5,000.00 to build a Sally Ann Summer Camp Cabin for needy children. Steve Juba leaves a legacy of loyalty to his home Province which extended beyond his retirement.

  • As a young girl who lived on Maryland a few houses away from the Mayor he and his wife would sit in the backyard garden and relax. They always had a huge bowl of colorful Jelly Beans to give to all the kids in the neighborhood bought from Wilson's Grocery on the corner of Sargent and Sherbrook. Great choice. So sad about his wife being ill and the nightmare she had to undergo to be wrongly diagnosed and used as a guinee pig back then.Yet this Mayor kept on forward with his ideals. Great choice!
