Fast Facts: While working at the University of Manitoba, he led the development of a variety of rapeseed that could be transformed into the edible oil now known as canola...He has many honours, including an Officer of the Order of Canada, the Icelandic Order of the Falcon and induction into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame.

  • Baldur by far is the Greatest Manitoban. Not only was he born and raised here, his life work was dedicated to helping the farmers of the Prairies. He is always receive my vote for number one Greatest Manitoban.

  • As we look at the beautiful flowers of the rapeseed in the fields, we can not help but think of the father of canola. The oil we use in all our cooking is thanks to his research..
